New 2014 Honda Odyssey Comes with Built-In Vacuum
In addition to high-tech features we all expect from new Honda vehicles, the 2014 Honda Odyssey Minivan shown at the 2013 New York International Auto Show last week features a rather practical “old-school” technology: a built-in vacuum cleaner.
It’s called a HondaVAC and the vehicle’s lead design engineer says it’s the world’s first in-car vacuum- designed for (messy) families who spend a lot of time in the car. Developed through a partnership with Shop-Vac, it’s basically a vacuum hose hidden behind a side panel in the rear cargo area. Don’t worry though, the vacuum can reach all the way to the front driver’s seat. It also comes with two attachments that are great for reaching those tricky spaces between seats.
The vacuum is powered by the van’s battery and it can be used for up to eight minutes while parked, or for an unlimited time while the engine is on.
The idea for the vacuum was inspired by an idea from the daughter of a Honda engineer who was frustrated by the mess that her kids were creating in their family van.
The refreshed Odyssey will be on sale this summer, but you can watch a video of the new vacuum here
