Rumors of Honda Testing a New Civic Type R

June 21st, 2012 by

Usually when one model goes out the door that means they are making room for a new model. That just so happens to be the deal with the now retired Honda Civic Type R and its replacement the Honda CR-Z sport coupe. We at Rensselaer Honda are happy with the events that unfolded because the US will be able to get a taste of the action since the old Honda Civic Type R was never offered in the states.

The Big H was recently spotted testing what looks to be a new version of the Civic Type R only two years after it was discontinued.

But how can we be so sure it’s a Civic Type R that they’re resting? There are two ways. First, the spy shots taken of the new vehicle depict a Civic that’s fitted with a prominent rear wing, larger exhaust outlets, and sleeker front-end grille, all of which are hallmarks of the Type R. Second, the pictures were taken at the Nürburgring in Germany. And when you want to test a performance-driven car, you test it there.

Of course, this all begs the question of whether or not Honda plans to bring the revived Type R to the United States. In the end, we’ll simply have to wait and see what they say. After all, Honda still hasn’t even confirmed that they are indeed developing a new version of the Type R. Nevertheless, you can count on Rensselaer Honda, located at 770 Hoosick Rd. Troy, NY 12180 to keep you updated on this one.
